6 Things To Know Before You Sign Up for Visible

If you think you’re paying too much for cell phone service on Verizon’s network, you may want to consider Visible.

Maybe you’ve seen the advertisements for this affordable wireless provider, but you may not realize that Visible is actually owned by Verizon and uses the same towers.

The biggest difference is the price. Visible is much cheaper than Verizon, but is it really worth it?

What Is Visible? Here’s What You Need to Know!

In this article, we’ll review everything you need to know if you’re thinking about switching to Visible in hopes of cutting your Verizon bill in half. Let’s get started!

1. Network Coverage

Visible’s website states that it provides full coverage on Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks. We pulled the coverage maps from Visible and Verizon’s websites — the blue coverage map is for Visible and the red one is for Verizon.

As you can see, the 4G LTE network coverage is solid in most parts of the United States.

If you live in an area where Verizon’s 4G coverage is strong, Visible should offer reliable service. I’ve been a paying subscriber for the past year and have been pleased with the call and text performance.

In December 2020, Visible announced that it began to offer 5G where available.

2. Plan and Pricing

Verizon offers four unlimited data plans, but Visible is a lot less complicated. Visible’s single unlimited data plan is $40 per month, taxes and fees included.

For that monthly price, you get unlimited talk, text and high-speed data. Data may be slowed during network congestion.

With Visible’s Party Pay feature, groups of two, three and four can reduce their bill to as low as $25/month per line. Each member of the party gets their own account and is billed separately.

Visible also has a referral program. If a person signs up for Visible with your referral code, you’ll get one month of service for only $5. You can refer up to 12 people which would mean one year of service for only $60!

3. Mobile Hotspot

Visible’s $40/month unlimited plan also includes mobile hotspot, but don’t expect blazing fast speeds. Mobile hotspot speeds are capped at 5 Mbps and limited to one tethered device at a time.

Several other low-cost cell phone providers don’t include mobile hotspot with unlimited plans. That’s a big plus for Visible.

4. Video Streaming

For those who like to stream video in HD, Visible is probably not the best carrier. Video typically streams at a resolution of 480p on your phone, according to Visible’s website. That’s referred to as DVD quality.

480p streaming is common, so this may not be a deal-breaker since phone screens are pretty small.

Want to see the difference? Run a few tests! Go to YouTube on your phone, select a video and manually adjust the video quality. Watch the video at 480p and compare it to 720p or 1080p.

To manually adjust video quality, select “More” (three vertical dots) in the YouTube video player and tap “Quality.”

5. Phone Selection

Visible has recently improved its phone selection. You can either bring a compatible device to the carrier or purchase an Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel device, among others.

Customers can pay for a device in full upfront or split the cost into monthly payments. Financing is offered for as low as 0%.

Phone deals are common for new customers. When I signed up, Visible offered a $200 prepaid virtual Mastercard for purchasing a $400 phone and paying for two months of service.

Here’s the page where you can learn about Visible’s phones for sale and any available promotions.

6. Customer Service

Visible has no physical stores or sales staff, so don’t expect the same level of customer service that you get with Verizon.

In fact, Visible doesn’t have an 800 number. Customer support is available through chat, text and Facebook.

Billing matters are also handled through the app. That’s where you can update your payment method or set up automatic payments. To cancel, you must chat with a customer service representative.

Final Thought

Visible’s cheap unlimited data plan can save you lots of money compared to Verizon, but it’s not your only alternative.

Other low-cost cell phone providers that rely on Verizon’s network include Total Wireless, Xfinity Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, Straight Talk and Red Pocket Mobile.
