Heads Up! Before you purchase an airline ticket, find out if rental cars are available for your travel dates – and at a rate you are willing to pay! Typical per day rates are $100 at most airports and neighborhood locations in the states (Hawaii and Alaska, too), Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. This shortage is expected to last at least for the rest of the year, so make haste on a booking. Start your search at AutoSlash.com. Once booked directly with a rental car company, share your confirmation with Auto Slash and the website will continuously monitor the reservation for a lower rate right up until your pick-up date!

Check CDC guidelines on global travel. Destinations are categorized in Levels 1-4 to indicate the level of risk (low to very high) for each country. The CDC Travel Planner shows travel restrictions for each U.S. state.

All travelers inbound to the U.S. must have digital or written proof of a negative Covid-19 test in order to board the flight home. Here are the details on this new requirement from the CDC. Travelers from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are exempt. Learn more about where to find testing locations in international countries before returning.

With entry regulations continuously changing, consider the purchase trip insurance in the event you test positive for COVID-19 before your scheduled flight. Most policies exclude coverage related to the pandemic, but there are policies that cover your trip costs if you cancel for any reason. Search at SquareMouth and choose the Coronavirus Pandemic filter which will only show you policies that will cover coronavirus-related cancelations or interruptions.

How to Book the Cheapest Flights

Travel News and Alerts

Can I take an international trip?

Here’s Clark’s advice: “What I’ve been recommending to anyone with travel plans outside the United States is that you just have to keep watching this. You need to make your own decision now that rebooking policies have become more favorable from most travel suppliers,” Clark says. “And that means making your own decision in terms of your health and how you feel about traveling. Traveling is about fun and getting away from it all, but if you’re going to feel a wall of worry, don’t go right now.”
